Chiranjeevi recalls an incident from the award ceremony when he felt insulted and humiliated
Chiranjeevi is one of the most talented and versatile actors that we have in the South Film industry. The actor has many blockbuster and record-breaking movies to his credit and is among the most sought-after stars. Chiranjeevi, who is currently busy promoting his next film 'Acharya', recently took a stroll down memory lane and recalled when he felt insulted and humiliated while attending an award ceremony's after-party event in Delhi in 1989. The actor mentioned that he felt very bad when he saw a wall dedicated to Indian Cinema with very little mention of South actors.
IndianExpress quoted Chiranjeevi as saying, “I kept walking in expectation to see something on south films. However, there was only a still of MGR with Jayalalithaa and a photo of Prem Nazir. They titled it as south films. Just that. They did not recognise stalwarts like Raj Kumar or Vishnuvardhan or NT Ramarao or Nageswara Rao or Sivaji Ganesan or even the legendary filmmakers of our industries. I felt very humiliated at that moment. It was like an insult. They portrayed Hindi cinema as Indian cinema. While other films were categorised as ‘regional films’ and were not given respect.”
For the unversed, the 66-year-old superstar’s film Rudraveena was honoured with the prestigious Nargis Dutt award at the award ceremony. Chiranjeevi was invited to a high tea party when he came across that wall and felt insulted. The actor also mentioned that record-breaking movies like Baahubali, RRR, Pushpa and KGF have done extremely well and he feels proud that South directors, actors, and writers are now being recognized nationally.
